Asphalt 5 for Xbox LIVE on Windows Phone is racing to the Marketplace

WP Central

Fulfilling our tradition of badly punned headlines, this week’s Xbox LIVE title is Asphalt 5 from Gameloft. And it’s ready for your challenge. The weird part? This game was one of the “original 50″ Xbox LIVE titles for Windows Phone, meaning it’s like just 2 years late.

Racing games can be fun and Asphalt 5 should make many folks pleased with some punchy high resolution graphics of dreamy sports cars. Well, at least that’s how Gameloft is selling the game. In fact, it features over 30 cars including such beauts as the Audi R8, Ruf Rt 12, Ford Shelby GT500, Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.

The game clocks in at 109MB, so you’ll need Wi-Fi to install and it’s priced at a moderate $2.99. While that won’t please you “It must be $0.99!” folks we’re okay with the $3 price range for games—especially ones which have high replay value….

Nokia releases ‘Climate Mission 3D’ game exclusively for Lumia Windows Phones (Video)

Nokia has finally released an “exclusive” video game for their Lumia line of Windows Phones. But no, it’s not Angry Birds: Space or anything from EA, it’s a little indie title that they had on Symbian awhile back called Climate Mission 3D.

Sounds like a bad 80′s movie to us. That or an episode of Captain Planet.

Regardless of Cartman-like reaction it’s not half bad. The 3D graphics are well done and the music is chill enough without being annoying. You basically have three mini games–Iceberg, Ants and Trees–which keep you occupied with little tasks like making bigger icebergs, forcing slave ants to do you bidding by collecting pine needles or populating the earth with fruit launching trees.

Although we jest at the theme of the game, considering it’s free it’ s not a terrible time killer. While the initial levels are dead simple (to train you) it does get a little challenging. There are also things to unlock and do around the globe and we guess the message ain’t too bad albeit tacky.

But hey, free is free so if you’re on a Nokia Lumia phone go and grab Climate Mission 3D now in the Nokia Collection. Thanks, Kay O., for the tip

Nokia Talks Windows Phone Apps and Lumia Exclusives

Part of Nokia’s plan to drive attention to its Lumia phones centers on bringing its users the latest and greatest apps; to that end, the company just announced a number of partnerships with developers, some bringing exclusive content to Lumia models.

The apps Nokia discussed include a mix of new titles and updates to existing apps. Even in the case of the latter, there’s the still the opportunity for Nokia to get exclusives, like how the new Groupon update with an augmented reality mode will only available be on Lumia phones for its first six months. Other exclusive titles include the upcoming PGA Tour app, ESPN Fantasy Football this fall, and AOL’s Entertainment Hub.

Beyond the exclusives, Nokia also talked about some high-profile titles hitting Windows Phone in general, like Rovio’s Angry Birds Space. Nokia says that Rovio has changed its tune on the platform, and future release will be targeted for ports as quickly as can be managed. Other companies Nokia singled-out for their work with Windows Phone development include Box, PayPal, TripDots, Electronic Arts, Time, and Newsweek.

5 New “Must-Have” Games Coming to Windows Phone in February

At CES this week, Microsoft is previewing 5 new Xbox LIVE games that will be coming to the Windows Phone Marketplace in February. Some of them we’ve seen previewed before and have been waiting quite a while to see released. We don’t know exactly when each of these will come out just yet, nor do we know the prices, but which ones are you going to plan on dropping a few dollars for next month?

First up is Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction from Gameloft. This is an action stealth military style shooting game and looks pretty similar to the iPhone version of the same name.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit from Electronic Arts is also on its way. This will be the second “Need for Speed” game for Windows Phone.

Toy Soldiers: Boot Camp from Microsoft Studios will be a Windows Phone exclusive that brings a version of the popular Toy Soldiers Xbox game to the small screen.

BulletAsylum
BulletAsylum by Microsoft Studios is a faster upbeat version of the old “Missle Command” with cooler graphics, sound effects, and more firepower.

ChickensCantFly

Chickens Can’t Fly from Microsoft Studios is another game that we actually got to see at Comic Con NY last year, but hasn’t been released yet. The game is about performing experiments on chickens, but it will also support a few cool features such as multiple live tiles and unlockable ringtones.

Rovio Teases The New Angry Birds Seasons ‘Year of the Dragon’ (Video)

Angry Bird-maker Rovio is trying to bring something fresh to the table as frequently as possible. The “Seasons” collection includes special editions of the game with (usually) holiday themes and “Year of the Dragon” seems to be falling in the same category.

Angry Birds Seasons ‘Year of the Dragon’ will land with the occasion of the Chinese New Year. There’s an official video teaser out hinting towards a January 20 release of the game in which we don’t know exactly what the pigs will be doing (well, they’re still going to steal eggs, that’s for sure).
